Elizabeth Troein, PhD

Founder and Owner, Carbontech Consulting LLC

Dr. Elizabeth Troein is a biogeochemist by training — she holds a BA in Geosciences from Princeton University and a PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences from Columbia University. She also served as a Crosby Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at MIT, where she led synchrotron-based research programs as the PI and Co-PI. These research programs studied natural carbon removal mechanisms that can be leveraged to remove anthropogenic carbon from the atmosphere.

Dr. Troein is a former ARPA-E Fellow — she focused on technical innovations in carbon removal, sensor and model development for MRV, and alternative mining processes – a portion of her work with the agency was featured in Physics Today.

Dr. Troein was Head of Science at Isometric from July 2022 to September 2023 — she led science strategy at Isometric through its $25M seed round, and she built and led the initial science team of 9 full-time scientists. Her team worked alongside Isometric’s engineering team to build and launch the Isometric Science Platform and the initial Isometric Science Network, with over 150 technical experts in carbon removal and its quantification.
